Who do you represent?
When you go to the grocery store, you’re surrounded by aisles of products. Each one displays a brand name - Oreo cookies, Bounty paper towels, Cheerios cereal. You choose these familiar products because you trust the brand’s quality. It doesn’t matter how many new products come onto the market, you remain faithful because those products represent their brand well.
Like our favorite products, we too have been marked and put on display, carrying the seal of God. In Ephesians 4:30, Paul tells us that the Lord has identified us as His own. He designated us as His people by giving us a new nature defined by light and His Holy Spirit. One meaning of the word identify in the Bible is to prove one’s testimony to a person that he is what he professes to be.
In a world that’s constantly changing and producing new ideologies and beliefs, our consistent character will identify us with our maker. The way we live our lives at work or in the grocery store needs to be consistent with who we profess to belong to. Our final home is heaven and everything we do here should push us closer to that place of eternity. We are to be diligent in carrying the mark of God well.
We encounter people everyday who choose not to follow God’s light. They greet us with anger, unkindness, impatience, and a whole list of other things that the Lord looks down on. However, we are called to be like God (Ephesians 4:24), living righteously and holy. We are called to exalt the truth of God above our emotions (Ephesians 4:26). We are called to encourage and not bring death with our speech (Ephesians 4:29). When we cultivate the light and Holy Spirit that the Lord has given us, we will be known as those who represent Him well.
My prayer for you today is that the Lord would remove anything that keeps you from representing Him well. Allow Him to search your heart for anything offensive so your witness remains pure. May you bring Him glory and show others His goodness by the way you live.
